Traveloka vs Trip.com: Which Is Better for Your Asia Holiday?

If you’re planning a holiday in Asia, from Bali and Thailand to Japan, two names come up a lot: Traveloka and Trip.com. Both book flights and hotels, but they have different strengths. Here’s how to pick the right one for your trip.

Traveloka: strong in Southeast Asia

Traveloka started in Indonesia in 2012 and focuses on Southeast Asia. Along with flights and hotels, it sells activities and attractions under its “Xperience” section, plus airport transfers, so you can keep flights, accommodation and things to do in one app.

It’s a good fit if you’re heading to Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, the Philippines or Singapore, especially if you want to book local stays such as villas, guesthouses and homestays alongside hotels.

Trip.com: flights, hotels and trains in one place

Trip.com is built around flights, hotels and train tickets, so it’s handy when your holiday covers several cities or countries, or when you want to book transport and your stay together. It’s a natural choice for trips to North Asia, such as Japan, Korea and China, as well as Southeast Asia.

Which is cheaper?

Neither is always cheaper. The same hotel or flight can be priced differently on each platform, and prices change often. To get the best deal:

  1. Pick your hotel or flight and your dates
  2. Search on both Traveloka and Trip.com
  3. Compare the final price including taxes and fees
  4. Check the change and cancellation rules before you pay

Changing or cancelling your booking

Traveloka

  • You can request a hotel reschedule from “My Booking” in your account. If the new booking costs more you pay the difference; if it’s cheaper, the difference is refunded. Fees may apply.
  • Non-refundable and “pay at hotel” rooms can’t be rescheduled: you’d need to cancel and make a new booking.
  • Whether a booking is refundable is shown on your e-voucher.

Trip.com

  • Rooms marked “Free Cancellation” can be cancelled for a full refund before the deadline, usually 24 to 48 hours before check-in, depending on the hotel.
  • “Non-refundable” rates are usually cheaper but generally can’t be cancelled or changed once confirmed.
  • You can cancel from “My Trips” in the app or on the website.

Tip: if your dates might change, pay a little more for a refundable rate on either platform.
